Marvin Ducksch Drink-Drive Ban: Birmingham Striker Handed

Marvin Ducksch has been handed a 14-month driving ban and ordered to pay £20,240 in fines and compensation after pleading guilty to drink-driving following a three-vehicle collision on Easter Monday. The Birmingham City forward appeared at Leamington Spa Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, where the bench chairman told him he was "lucky to be alive" given the severity of the incident.

The 32-year-old German international was breathalysed at 53mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. The crash occurred hours after Ducksch featured as a substitute in Birmingham's 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town. According to prosecutor Lina Akther, the forward claimed he was attempting to change his music when the collision happened, though he also mentioned avoiding a tree branch. He struck an oncoming vehicle and clipped a second car following behind.

Court Ruling and Financial Penalties

Magistrates imposed the following sanctions on the former Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund player:

  • 14-month driving disqualification
  • £16,155 fine
  • £2,000 court surcharge
  • £85 court costs
  • £1,000 compensation each to two female drivers involved in the collision

The court permitted him to settle the debt through monthly payments of £2,000. One driver sustained a nosebleed and injuries to her forehead and thumb. Ducksch's defence solicitor noted that he checked on the welfare of all parties involved, presenting this as evidence of his character.

Club Response and Playing Record

Birmingham City have taken internal disciplinary action beyond the legal sanctions. The club confirmed that Ducksch has been fined financially and suspended from playing multiple matches as a direct consequence of the incident. Despite the off-field controversy, the forward has contributed meaningfully on the pitch this season, recording 11 goals and two assists across 36 Championship and domestic cup appearances since joining from the Bundesliga in August for a reported €2 million fee.

The club released character references describing him as a man of good standing, though this serious conviction will require Ducksch to rebuild his reputation during his driving ban period and beyond.
