Ruben Amorim addressed AC Milan's supporters ahead of the derby against Inter, acknowledging the club's current difficulties and asking for patience as he implements changes at Milanello.
Speaking at a press conference, Amorim referenced owner Gerry Cardinale's use of Top Gun as a metaphor for ups and downs, and said: "We must be extremely clear with our fans and make them understand that it will take time." He stressed that while Milan want to win every match, building solid foundations requires more time than the current congested schedule allows.
Amorim highlighted a specific concern: "Since we returned from international duty three weeks ago, there has simply been no time to train." He explained that the lack of training sessions has meant small details and team aspects cannot be properly addressed, beyond fatigue alone.
On the Milan–Inter rivalry itself, Amorim noted its unique character. "It is a special match because it is played in the same city," he said, contrasting it with derbies he experienced in Manchester and Lisbon. He suggested the Milan derby has a Latin passion closer to Portuguese football culture than English competition, where "the spirit remains a little more sporting."
Regarding team selection for the derby, Amorim said some players "are ready to join the squad" but added: "We need to assess tomorrow morning whether they can start or what the game plan will be."
