Julian Ryerson Shuts Down Transfer Rumours Amid Manchester

Julian Ryerson has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, responding with sharp wit when quizzed about transfer rumours. The Norwegian right-back told reporters: "You're really clever. You know more than I do. I've got a two-year contract here, so I'm not giving it another thought."

The comments came after Manchester United made enquiries about the 41-time international, according to Sky Germany. However, any potential deal remains highly speculative. Should Dortmund entertain an offer, the Bundesliga club would demand a minimum fee of €30 million for their in-form defender, whose contract runs until 2028.

European Interest Mounts Around Ryerson

Ryerson has emerged as one of Europe's most productive full-backs this season. With 18 assists across all competitions, he ranks among the continent's elite creators from the defensive line. In the Bundesliga specifically, his 15 assists place him behind only Bayern Munich's Michael Olise and Luis Diaz. This output has naturally attracted attention from top clubs across multiple leagues.

Barcelona held preliminary discussions with Ryerson last December, seeking an affordable alternative to Jules Koundé at right-back. More recently, reports suggest the Italian Serie A has become his preferred destination should he depart Dortmund. Early speculation pointed toward England or Spain, yet Italian clubs are now viewed as more realistic suitors. A Premier League move would only materialise if a top-four club needed emergency cover for injuries.

Dortmund's Stance and Ryerson's Track Record

Dortmund's sporting director previously dismissed the transfer chatter as "complete nonsense," signalling the club's determination to retain their star asset. Ryerson arrived from Union Berlin in January 2023 for approximately €5 million and has since become indispensable. Across 143 competitive matches, he has contributed 24 assists and seven goals, establishing himself as a dual-threat full-back capable of operating on either flank. His combination of defensive solidity and creative output makes him one of the Bundesliga's most valuable players, explaining both the inflated asking price and sustained European interest as the transfer window approaches.
