Adam Wharton Transfer Price Set: Man Utd & Liverpool Eye

Adam Wharton could leave Crystal Palace this summer despite Conference League success, with an asking price now firmly established by the south London club. The 22-year-old midfielder has attracted serious interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, and former Palace striker Clinton Morrison believes the talented playmaker may be tempted by a move to a Champions League club.

Wharton's meteoric rise since joining Palace from Blackburn for £18 million in February 2024 has been remarkable. The England international has become a Premier League regular, earning four senior caps and establishing himself as one of the division's most promising midfielders. His performances have not gone unnoticed by elite clubs, with his development accelerating significantly during his first 18 months at Selhurst Park.

What Price Will Palace Demand?

According to Morrison, Palace will demand between £60 million and £70 million for their prized asset, with potential buyers needing to offer closer to £80 million to secure a deal. The valuation reflects both the midfielder's current ability and his significant upside potential. Morrison explained the club's position: "Palace might have to say, 'well, 60, 70 million coming for Adam Wharton, we might have to take it after we paid 18 million to Blackburn for him.' That's another great bit of business they've done at the football club."

Despite Palace's strong contract position—Wharton is tied to a deal through 2029—the midfielder's ambition could drive a departure. At just 22 years old, he may prioritize Champions League football over domestic success, particularly as he targets a regular spot in Thomas Tuchel's England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The midfielder understands that playing at the highest European level is essential for elite development at his career stage.

Will Trophies Keep Him at Palace?

Palace have won the FA Cup and Community Shield recently, with a Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano coming up. However, Morrison suggested that silverware alone may not persuade Wharton to stay beyond summer 2025. "I would love him to stay for another 12 months, and I think he should stay. But his development—he might say, 'I need to be playing Champions League football to become an England regular,'" Morrison told GOAL.

The midfielder's departure would represent excellent business for Palace, who have already profited significantly from developing academy talent in recent seasons. Wharton's price only stands to increase with further performances at international level, making 2025 a realistic window for a record-breaking transfer. His next challenge awaits either at Palace or one of Europe's elite clubs seeking midfield reinforcement.
