Dortmund Confirm Interest in Hertha Midfielder Kennet

Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed their pursuit of Kennet Eichhorn, the 16-year-old attacking midfielder from Hertha Berlin. Sporting director Ole Book revealed BVB's genuine interest in the teenage prospect during a public training session, describing the youngster's technical qualities with clear enthusiasm.

"I do think Kennet has a certain creativity about him. We know him well, and we like him too," Book explained to reporters. "Like probably many other clubs, we like the player. We'll have to wait and see what happens next." The statement comes after months of speculation linking the German prodigy to the Signal Iduna Park club, with reports indicating a recent meeting between the sporting director and Eichhorn's representatives signalled Dortmund's concrete ambitions.

Competing Interests from Top European Clubs

Eichhorn finds himself at the centre of a fierce recruitment battle. Manchester City are serious contenders, with Sky reporting that Pep Guardiola has personally recommended the teenager. Bayern Munich have also expressed interest, though the Bavarian giants face internal debate over whether to pursue the move. Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are additional suitors tracking the player's development.

A complicating factor emerged earlier this season when Sport Bild claimed Eichhorn harboured reservations about Dortmund's tactical approach under manager Niko Kovac, potentially viewing alternative destinations more favourably. However, Book's public endorsement suggests BVB remain confident of winning this particular race, with Bild reporting the club possesses the "best chance" of securing his signature.

Youth Success Amid Transfer Speculation

While the transfer saga develops, Dortmund's youth academy delivered silverware this season. A squad featuring U19 and U23 prospects claimed the Premier League International Cup at their first attempt, with Taycan Etcibasi's sixth-minute goal securing the trophy. The competition, established in 2014/15, ranks among Europe's most competitive youth tournaments, featuring 16 English and 16 international clubs annually.

For Eichhorn, the pressure to decide his future intensifies. With four U17 caps already earned for Germany and elite clubs circling, the teenage midfielder faces a pivotal decision that could define the trajectory of his career over the next decade.
