According to Bild, Salzburg have shifted their asking price significantly upward. Rather than the €20 million previously reported, the Austrian Bundesliga outfit now demands a base fee of approximately €25 million, with performance-related bonuses ranging from €4 million to €6 million. The total package could exceed €30 million—a substantial jump that has caught Dortmund off guard. Sporting directors Lars Ricken and Ole Book are actively engaged in negotiations to bring the fee down to more manageable levels for the Bundesliga club.
Defensive Crisis Forces Dortmund's Hand
The timing of this impasse is particularly frustrating for Dortmund, who face a genuine defensive emergency. Niklas Süle has retired, Emre Can remains sidelined with a long-term injury, and Nico Schlotterbeck's future remains uncertain. This combination has left their back line critically depleted. Gadou, standing 1.95 metres tall, represents an immediate solution and has caught the club's eye with his performances in Salzburg's pressing system.
The 19-year-old French Under-21 international transferred to Austria from Paris Saint-Germain's academy in 2024. This season, he has made 33 competitive appearances for Salzburg and gained continental experience in the Europa League, demonstrating his readiness for a step up in competition. Earlier reports from Kicker and Sky suggested the deal was virtually complete, with Dortmund having already agreed personal terms on a long-term contract and clubs entering final discussions.
