Koeman Urges Barcelona to Sign Rashford Permanently for €30m

Ronald Koeman has publicly backed Barcelona to exercise their €30million buy-option on Marcus Rashford, warning the club would "regret it immensely" if they allowed the winger to return to Manchester United. The former Barcelona manager's endorsement comes after Rashford's standout performance in the Catalan side's 2-0 El Clasico victory over Real Madrid, where he scored with a stunning free kick just nine minutes into the match.

Rashford has flourished during his season-long loan spell at Camp Nou, delivering 14 goals and 14 assists across 47 matches in all competitions this campaign. The England international's contributions proved decisive in Barcelona's LaLiga title defence, securing back-to-back championships. His impact in the Madrid derby underscored why Koeman believes the club must act decisively in the transfer market.

Koeman: Madrid "Terrified" of Rashford's Pace

Koeman emphasised the tactical threat Rashford poses, particularly his ability to punish opponents on the counter-attack. "Rashford hurts teams. Madrid looked terrified every time he turned and ran," Koeman told AS. "Against Real Madrid, he completely destroyed them on the counter-attack. The speed, the aggression, the directness, the confidence – Madrid couldn't handle him."

The veteran manager framed the potential transfer fee as exceptional value in today's market. "€30million in the current market for a player with these characteristics, these numbers, this experience… that's a rip-off," he explained, suggesting Barcelona would be surrendering a world-class talent at a bargain price if negotiations stalled.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick, Manchester United's interim manager, is providing his assessment to INEOS, the club's ownership structure, as the Red Devils consider Barcelona's approach regarding another loan extension or permanent departure. Barcelona currently stands in talks with United over extending Rashford's temporary arrangement through 2026 before a potential permanent move materializes in 2027, leaving the winger's long-term future unresolved. How negotiations unfold in the coming weeks could determine whether Rashford remains in Spain or returns to the Premier League.
