Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has called on his players to raise their level of consistency before Tuesday's UEFA Champions League match at Barcelona's Camp Nou.
The warning came after Villa drew with Fulham in the Premier League. Emery was dissatisfied with the performance, noting that Villa lost control in the second half and allowed their opponents back into the game. He stressed the need to sustain performance across the full 90 minutes.
Villa have not lost in their last five league matches, winning three and drawing two. However, Emery does not view these recent results as sufficient to overlook a poor start to the season. "I want to see more consistency," Emery said. "In the last five league matches, we won three and drew two. These are not bad results, but our bad start is still a problem. We have to change our plan quickly in preparation for Tuesday's match against Barcelona."
Emery acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead. Barcelona have lost only once at home this season, losing to Real Madrid. Emery wants a more stable, focused display from his players at Camp Nou, without the drop-off in performance that occurred against Fulham.
