Ten Hag turned down Feyenoord approach, chose to step back from coaching

Erik ten Hag, technical director at FC Twente, revealed he declined an approach from Feyenoord after the club dismissed manager Brian Priske in February 2025 following poor league results.

Speaking to Goedemorgen Eredivisie, ten Hag said he had a long phone conversation with Feyenoord and acknowledged the club's stature and his connection with technical director Dennis te Kloese. However, his history at Ajax influenced his decision to decline the role.

"After 17 years of always being on the move as a coach, having carried straight on after my career, I had finally reached a point where I could take a step back for a while," ten Hag explained. He added that stepping back from football allowed him to reflect and pursue other interests.

When asked whether he would consider coaching Ajax in future, ten Hag left the door open: "I wouldn't rule it out, but before we get any headlines: I'm now technical director at FC Twente and I'm very happy there."

Feyenoord appointed Robin van Persie to replace Priske. Van Persie had finished second with the club in the previous season but was dismissed in the summer.
