Bayern Munich Eyes Premier League Move for Alexander Nübel

Alexander Nübel will leave Bayern Munich this summer, with three top European clubs reportedly competing for the 29-year-old goalkeeper's signature. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed the German record champions have informed Nübel's representatives that he no longer fits their plans, despite holding a contract through 2030.

Why Nübel Must Leave Bavaria

Bayern's goalkeeper hierarchy is now settled around Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich. With Neuer recently extending his deal, there is simply no pathway for Nübel to regain his position as first-choice keeper. The club views his departure as necessary for financial and squad management reasons.

Nübel currently earns €11 million annually, with Bayern subsidising €7 million of that package during his loan at VfB Stuttgart. A permanent return to Stuttgart is off the table—the goalkeeper refused to accept a significant salary reduction, and Stuttgart plan to build their future around Dennis Seimen, the impressive 20-year-old on loan at SC Paderborn who has shone in their recent promotion playoff run.

Premier League as Most Likely Destination

Bayern are actively exploring Premier League options for Nübel, believing a transfer to England would command the highest fee. Newcastle United are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper and could represent a viable suitor, though the Magpies are also tracking RC Lens' Robin Risser at an estimated €30–40 million. Brighton & Hove Albion represents another possibility should Bart Verbruggen depart, with Freiburg's Noah Atubolu linked to both clubs.

A lucrative Premier League move would accomplish multiple objectives for Bayern: securing a substantial transfer fee for a goalkeeper acquired on a free transfer from Schalke 04 in 2020, freeing up significant salary-cap space for other targets like Anthony Gordon, and potentially using salary relief as leverage in negotiations with Newcastle. Concrete discussions with interested clubs are expected only after the DFB Cup final against Stuttgart in late May, leaving Nübel's destination likely unresolved until late summer. His exit represents both a financial opportunity and a tactical reset for the Bavarian giants.
