Nübel to Leave Bayern Munich Despite 2030 Contract

Alexander Nübel will depart FC Bayern Munich this summer despite holding a contract until 2030, the club's sporting director Christoph Freund has officially confirmed. The 29-year-old goalkeeper, currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart, has no path back to the Allianz Arena following talks between Bayern's hierarchy and his representatives.

"We've spoken to his advisors, and Alex knows where we stand," Freund told Sport1 after Bayern's commanding 5-1 victory over 1. FC Köln on Saturday, concluding the Bundesliga season. The decision reflects Bayern's goalkeeping structure, where Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich—both recently extended by a year—occupy the primary roles, with long-term successor Jonas Urbig already embedded in the squad. "We're going into next season with this trio of goalkeepers; that's the plan," Freund explained.

Stuttgart Pursuit and Uncertain Future

Nübel arrived at Bayern from Schalke in 2020 but managed only four competitive appearances across his four-year tenure. A two-year loan spell at AS Monaco between 2021 and 2023 preceded his current Stuttgart assignment, where he has become a regular fixture in Bundesliga action. VfB Stuttgart harbors genuine interest in a permanent deal but lacks the financial resources to negotiate Bayern's asking price for the German international.

The three-time Germany international faces an uncertain summer as clubs across Europe weigh moves for an experienced goalkeeper entering his prime years. Bayern's decision to retain four senior keepers while loaning out Nübel underscores the competitive depth at Munich, yet creates a bottleneck for his development. His next destination will shape both his club career trajectory and international standing heading into the 2025-26 season.
