Michael Carrick Offered Two-Year Manchester United Contract

Michael Carrick is set to become Manchester United's permanent manager after INEOS chiefs recommended his appointment to owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The club has tabled a two-year contract with an optional third year, potentially keeping Carrick at Old Trafford until 2029. His interim spell has yielded impressive results, winning ten of his opening fifteen matches since replacing Ruben Amorim in January.

The 46-year-old has overseen a dramatic turnaround in United's fortunes, steering the club back into Champions League contention during the second half of the campaign. Carrick's emergence as a serious candidate came after months of uncertainty surrounding the managerial position. While formal confirmation remains pending, sources suggest a resolution could arrive before United's final home fixture against Nottingham Forest this season.

Coaching Team Set for Overhaul

United's backroom staff are also being retained and expanded under Carrick's potential tenure. Steve Holland, deemed instrumental to recent improvements, will remain in situ. Assistant coaches Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans are lined up for fresh deals, alongside goalkeeping coach Craig Mawson. The club is also pursuing set-piece specialist Andreas Georgson, currently based at Tottenham, to bolster their coaching infrastructure.

Georgson earned popularity during his previous time at United and represents a realistic target to enhance the team's tactical depth. His arrival would mark a significant recruitment coup, offering continuity while strengthening specialist areas that have historically undermined the club's progress in tight matches.

Speaking to media before Sunday's clash with Nottingham Forest, Carrick remained characteristically measured about his future prospects. He acknowledged that clarity would emerge shortly, emphasizing that the club's ambitions centre on sustained upward trajectory rather than merely consolidating current position. With the Premier League's elite increasingly competitive, United face a genuine challenge in closing the gap to title contenders while maintaining recent momentum.
