Bayern Munich's Eberl Breaks Silence on Michael Olise

Max Eberl has moved decisively to clarify Bayern Munich's position on Michael Olise's future, stating the club wants to extend the Frenchman's deal beyond his current 2029 contract. Speaking ahead of Bayern's Bundesliga clash at Augsburg, the sporting director emphasised the German record champions' commitment to the 24-year-old attacker, describing him as a "world-class player who is still not at the end" of his peak years.

Eberl's candid remarks represent a significant shift in tone from previous public statements. In September, he had suggested Bayern would only seek clarity on Olise's intentions by summer 2025. Now, the club is actively pushing for talks. "Our wish has been clearly stated," Eberl told DAZN. "We would like to keep working with Michael for a long time, beyond 2029, ideally by extending." He acknowledged a crucial complication: "There is also a third party," referring to Olise's representatives and potential outside interest.

Contract Details and Release Clause Demands

Recent reports have outlined Bayern's proposed incentives to retain their €53 million summer 2024 signing. According to various sources, the Bavarians are offering:

  • A contract extension through 2032
  • Annual salary of approximately €25 million, matching top earners Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala
  • A Ballon d'Or bonus clause for winning football's most prestigious individual award

Olise currently earns around €14 million annually, making the proposed package a substantial raise. However, one condition threatens to complicate negotiations: Olise's representatives reportedly insist on a release clause being inserted into any new contract. At Crystal Palace, where Bayern triggered a €53 million exit clause to sign him last summer, such an option protected the player's interests. His existing Munich contract contains no such provision, a potential sticking point in discussions.

Kane Priority and Real Madrid Threat

Bayern's contract negotiations have been layered and complex. Talks with Kane take precedence, as the England captain's current deal expires at season's end. Kane, 33, recently signalled optimism about reaching an agreement. "We are pretty close. I feel comfortable. It will not be too long before there is an announcement," he said, describing discussions as "open." With Kane's future still unresolved, Eberl is juggling multiple renewal campaigns simultaneously.

Olise's situation is further complicated by Real Madrid's persistent interest. Los Blancos have been linked with the attacker for months, though reports now suggest even the Spanish champions expect him to remain in Munich. Eberl's recent clarity signals Bayern's determination to ward off outside suitors and lock in one of Europe's most exciting attacking talents. Whether a release clause compromise can be reached will ultimately shape whether Olise commits to a long-term future in the Bundesliga.
