Liverpool FC has been crowned the most culturally influential football club in Europe, surpassing Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United in a landmark global study. Independent research by Harris and Toluna surveyed 22 international markets, with 31 per cent of participants identifying the Reds as a major cultural force in world sport.
The recognition extends far beyond domestic success. Over the past 12 months, Liverpool accumulated 14.7 billion social media views—37 per cent more than any other Premier League club. The club's official website attracted 96.16 million global visits, the highest in English football, while fan engagement metrics rank them third consecutive season as the Premier League's most connected club with supporters.
Global Reach Beyond the Pitch
Liverpool's dominance reflects a deliberate strategy to embed the club within popular culture and entertainment ecosystems. Through digital storytelling, community initiatives, and innovative content, the Reds have built influence that transcends traditional football discourse. In the United States market specifically, Liverpool leads European football clubs with 18 per cent cultural relevance, well ahead of second-placed competitors on 13 per cent.
Hannah Beam, senior vice president of marketing and digital at Liverpool, attributed the achievement to the club's foundations: "Seeing the club recognised as the most culturally influential reflects the breadth of our community, from passionate fan culture rooted in Liverpool, to our expanding global supporter network."
The findings arrive as Liverpool begins the 2026-27 campaign under manager Andoni Iraola. After opening with draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, the Reds defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 before facing Atletico Madrid in their Champions League league phase opener at Anfield on Wednesday. Cultural influence and sporting ambition now converge as Liverpool pursues continental glory.
