Bayern Munich Explore Swap Deal for Anthony Gordon with

FC Bayern Munich are considering an unconventional approach to land Anthony Gordon, with goalkeeper Alexander Nübel potentially offered as a makeweight in negotiations with Newcastle United. The Bavarian club view the swap as a practical solution to bridge the significant valuation gap between the two clubs, as transfer talks have stalled over Gordon's asking price.

Newcastle are demanding more than €80 million for the 25-year-old English winger, a fee Bayern consider excessive. By offering Nübel in exchange, the German champions hope to reduce their cash outlay considerably. The 29-year-old goalkeeper's loan at VfB Stuttgart concludes on 30 June, and Bayern have already signalled his departure is inevitable. Sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed the club will proceed next season with Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich as their goalkeeper contingent, leaving no pathway for Nübel's return.

Newcastle's Goalkeeper Hunt

The Magpies themselves are actively searching for goalkeeping reinforcements. Reports suggest Newcastle have identified RC Lens star Robin Risser as a primary target, with the French club demanding €30–40 million. Nübel represents a considerably cheaper alternative, requiring only that Newcastle moderate their Gordon valuation. However, the German stopper harbours reservations about joining the Premier League club, preferring opportunities in Serie A or the English top flight with alternatives to Newcastle. His ongoing World Cup duty for the German national team has also delayed concrete discussions with suitors.

Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl indicated on Friday that the club remains committed to signing an attacking player if the price proves reasonable. Though Eberl avoided naming Gordon directly, the context made his intentions clear. Gordon has already reached a personal agreement with Bayern regarding salary and terms, but the clubs remain deadlocked on the transfer fee. The winger's proven ability in the Premier League—he has established himself as a reliable attacking threat for Newcastle—makes him a prime target for the Bundesliga title contenders as they prepare for next season's European campaigns.

How Bayern and Newcastle resolve this impasse could reshape transfer negotiations across Europe's elite clubs. A successful swap would demonstrate how mid-tier assets can unlock deals otherwise derailed by inflated valuations, setting a template for future negotiations in modern football.
