However, Tuchel's commitment to the Three Lions—sealed by a fresh contract extension—ended negotiations. The most ambitious pursuit involved Carlo Ancelotti, the veteran Italian with an unparalleled trophy cabinet spanning Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain. The 66-year-old's experience and proven track record at elite clubs appealed to United's leadership. Yet Ancelotti prioritised leading Brazil into the next World Cup cycle, signing a new deal with the Selecao and removing himself from contention.
Domestic Alternatives and Structural Obstacles
The search extended to Premier League rivals. Andoni Iraola from Bournemouth and Unai Emery of Aston Villa both underwent assessment. Iraola's impressive work on the south coast earned respect, but United's hierarchy deemed the jump to Old Trafford too significant a step.
