Alexia Putellas has been named the 2025-26 UEFA Women's Champions League Player of the Season, capping a dominant continental campaign that saw Barcelona claim their fourth European title. The Spanish midfielder's award comes after the Blaugrana dismantled OL Lyonnais 4-0 in the final held in Oslo, reasserting their position as Europe's most formidable force in women's football.
Record-Breaking Contribution Across 11 Matches
Putellas delivered a masterclass in creative excellence throughout the knockout stages. Across 11 Champions League appearances, the Barcelona captain recorded 14 direct goal contributions—seven goals and seven assists—more than any other player in the competition. Her technical precision was equally striking, maintaining an 86.73% passing accuracy while reaching top speeds of 25.77km/h, a combination that enabled her side to break down every defensive setup they encountered.
This accolade marks only the second time Putellas has claimed the prize, the first arriving during the 2021-22 season. Her victory ends a three-year reign by teammate Aitana Bonmati, who claimed the award in 2023, 2024, and 2025. The consecutive honours underscore Barcelona's unmatched depth in attacking talent and their control of European women's football.
Barcelona's Dominance Extends Beyond Putellas
The Catalan club's superiority was reflected across all individual awards. Five Barcelona players earned spots in the Team of the Season: Cata Coll in goal, defenders Mapi León, midfielder Patri Guijarro, and forwards Ewa Pajor and Putellas. Additionally, Lily Yohannes of OL Lyonnais claimed the Revelation of the Season award, recognising the competition's finest young talent under 21, after contributing three goals or assists in ten appearances during her debut campaign with the French champions following her summer move from Ajax.
Chelsea loanee Julia Bartel secured the Goal of the Season award for her spectacular volley playing for Atletico Madrid against Twente in the league phase. As Barcelona prepares for the new season, Putellas and her side will look to continue their unprecedented dominance in European club football.
