Pedro Reveals Messi Transfer Bid for Lazio After Emotional

Pedro has confirmed he made unofficial recruitment efforts during his time at Lazio, attempting to lure several high-profile former teammates to the Italian capital. The Spanish winger, 38, completed his farewell to the Serie A club after scoring in Saturday's victory over Pisa, bringing an end to an impressive two-year spell in Rome.

In an interview with Lazio's official YouTube channel, Pedro disclosed names he actively pursued. Lionel Messi topped the list, though the Barcelona legend's move to MLS made any realistic attempt unlikely. The veteran winger also targeted David de Gea and Jordi Alba when both became free agents, hoping to reunite with familiar faces. "I always tried," Pedro explained. "Even with Messi, obviously it was not easy. Then Jordi Alba and De Gea when they were free agents. I also remember speaking about Bartra with Sarri. And David Luiz. I would have loved to let them experience the passion of our fans."

A Decorated Career Comes to Rome

Pedro departs Lazio with 209 appearances and 39 goals across his time in Italy, leaving behind one of football's most accomplished résumés. The Spanish international won the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and European Championship in 2012 with Spain. His club honours include three Champions League titles, five La Liga crowns, and two Club World Cups earned during his golden Barcelona era. A Premier League winner with Chelsea, Pedro also captured the Europa League and FA Cup during his London stint.

The 2024-25 campaign proved challenging for Lazio as a whole, with the club finishing ninth in Serie A and failing to secure European football. Despite individual performances, Pedro recognized broader challenges facing the Roman outfit. He called for reconciliation between playing squad, coaching staff, and supporters as the foundation for future success.

"The first thing is to find union again between the squad, fans and club, all pulling in the same direction," Pedro stated in his farewell message. "I am certain that in a few years Lazio will return to winning trophies and fighting for Europe. And I hope to come back one day to help." The midfielder's next destination remains unconfirmed as he prepares for the next chapter of his remarkable playing career.
