Gabriel Martinelli could leave Arsenal this summer if the Gunners secure the Premier League title, according to former defender Mikael Silvestre. The Brazilian winger has struggled to replicate the form of Bukayo Saka on the opposite flank and faces fierce competition for playing time under Mikel Arteta.
Silvestre believes Martinelli's limited opportunities at the Emirates would drive a move away, particularly after a potential trophy success. "Gabriel Martinelli might be the one who wants to trigger a transfer because of the game-time," Silvestre told Betpack. "He's a Brazil international, he wants to play, and Leandro Trossard gets more game time than him. He's been there a long time as well, so leaving after winning the league would be good timing for him."
Playing Time Concerns for Arsenal Winger
The 23-year-old has attracted interest from European and Saudi Pro League clubs as his development has plateaued at the north London club. While Arsenal boast excellent recruitment across the squad, the left-wing position represents a clear area for upgrade. Martinelli joined Arsenal in 2018 and has made over 200 appearances, but recent seasons have seen diminishing returns as Trossard has become the preferred option in that role.
Should Martinelli depart, Silvestre has identified PSG's Bradley Barcola as an ideal long-term replacement. The French winger possesses the pace, dribbling skills and creative output needed to compete with Saka and push Trossard for selection. Barcola has flourished in Ligue 1 and could thrive within Arteta's tactical system.
What Lies Ahead for the Gunners
Arsenal currently sit three wins away from claiming both the Premier League and Champions League titles—a remarkable achievement if completed. The club's meticulous transfer strategy over recent windows has built genuine squad depth, yet addressing the left-wing department remains a logical priority. Whether Martinelli stays or departs, Arsenal's recruitment team will need to act decisively if they are to maintain their challenge for major honours next season.
