Harry Kane has backed Paris Saint-Germain as favourites to win the Champions League final against Arsenal, despite admitting uncertainty about watching the showdown. The Bayern Munich striker's European dream ended in the semi-finals after his side fell to a 6-5 aggregate defeat to the French champions, with Kane scoring a late consolation in a 1-1 second-leg draw at the Allianz Arena.
Kane's stoppage-time goal made him the first player since Cristiano Ronaldo to score in six consecutive Champions League knockout matches, a record that offered little comfort. "It's tough to take right now. Over the two legs we had enough moments to have a different outcome but it didn't go our way," Kane told reporters. The 32-year-old England captain acknowledged PSG's edge heading into the final, though he emphasized the quality of both finalists.
Kane Assesses the Final Battle
When discussing the continental showdown, Kane struck a balanced tone about the tactical contest ahead. "PSG being champions probably hold the right to be slight favourites but overall, two top teams going at it and it will be an even match," he said. Kane highlighted that both clubs employ similar pressing approaches but noted that PSG's experience defending their crown could prove decisive in a high-pressure environment. If PSG win, they would join Real Madrid as the only club to successfully defend the Champions League title in the modern era.
The Bayern forward also voiced frustration over refereeing decisions that shaped the tie, particularly regarding a rejected handball penalty and what he felt was a missed second yellow card for Nuno Mendes. "Everyone who watched the game will have the same decision," Kane argued. Despite the disappointment, he reflected on Bayern's broader season: "I think it has been a very strong season, but always in the Champions League it will come down to the final margins."
Kane remained noncommittal about tuning into the final, saying his viewing intentions depend on circumstances. Bayern now target domestic silverware, with the DFB-Pokal final against Stuttgart offering a chance for redemption after European elimination ended their pursuit of continental glory this season.
