Manchester City has unveiled a purpose-built £10 million headquarters for its women's team, arriving at a symbolic moment—days after the club claimed its first Women's Super League title in a decade. The state-of-the-art facility marks a watershed for English women's football, giving the Lionesses a dedicated space that captain Alex Greenwood believes elevates the squad "to a whole different level."
The construction process took nearly four years, with players and coaching staff shaping every detail from design to function. The circular dressing room deliberately mirrors the Etihad Stadium's architecture, fostering team unity. Midfielder Laura Coombs contributed to interior design decisions, while players selected how their names appear on lockers. Unlike the previous setup—shared with academy boys aged 14 to 19—the new facility offers entirely dedicated spaces for medical care, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and nutrition.

Greenwood, who boasts over 100 England caps and spent time at eight-time European champions Lyon, emphasized that this represents the finest bespoke women's environment she has encountered. "For a women's team specifically, yes, for sure," she said when asked if it surpassed other elite facilities. "At Lyon we had something adequate, but nothing comes close to this because it's specifically for us, in every way."
The nutritional infrastructure emerged as a standout advantage. With a multinational squad comprising Japanese, Jamaican, Brazilian, and other players, the dedicated kitchen and nutritionists can cater to diverse dietary preferences and pre-match fuelling strategies tailored to individual cultures and bodies. Emma Deakin, director of performance services, highlighted the contrast: "Previously feeding 200 academy boys meant very different requirements. Now we can be genuinely bespoke about what fuelling looks like for each player."
Connectivity and Tactical Edge
Head coach Andree Jeglertz identified spontaneous connection as the facility's defining strength. Without needing scheduled meetings, coaching staff can engage players casually in hallways, at lunch, or in the gym. The lounge space embodies this philosophy—a relaxed environment that transforms within minutes into a tactical analysis hub where Jeglertz can dissect opponents like Chelsea.
