Mourinho Ready for Real Madrid Move as Chelsea Eyes Manager

Jose Mourinho has signalled his willingness to accept a managerial position at Real Madrid, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, though former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes the Portuguese tactician should return to Stamford Bridge instead. The Special One is currently managing Benfica, where he has guided the Portuguese club to the brink of an unbeaten league season, though they ultimately finished second to Porto in the Primeira Liga title race.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has identified Mourinho as his primary target to replace Alvaro Arbeloa in the dugout. Romano revealed that negotiations between the club and Mourinho's representative Jorge Mendes are progressing, with the manager prepared to commit once he receives clarity on his authority and the club's strategic direction. "Mourinho would be ready to take the job," Romano stated. "Obviously he wants to be informed on what kind of power he would have, what kind of project Real Madrid has. He is absolutely ready for this opportunity."

Benfica's Contract Dilemma

Benfica currently hold a valid contract with Mourinho that extends another season into the future, and the Portuguese club have prepared a fresh contract offer hoping to retain him. His departure, however, hinges entirely on whether Perez decides to pursue the appointment. The relationship between Mourinho and Madrid's hierarchy remains strong following his previous successful stint managing the club, positioning him favourably for negotiations.

Cole has thrown his weight behind an alternative scenario, urging Chelsea to move decisively. "The best move the club could make now, a realistic move as well, is to go to Jose Mourinho," Cole suggested. This would represent Mourinho's third spell at Stamford Bridge, where he previously won three Premier League titles during two separate tenures. Contact between the parties will intensify over the coming days as Perez weighs his final decision on whether to pursue the veteran manager.
