D'Amico addressed the situation publicly after intense speculation linked the 25-year-old with a move to Stamford Bridge. "Before the Fiorentina match, I said it would be difficult for us to deprive ourselves of important players so near to the end of the transfer session, and that proved to be the case," the sporting director told Sky Sport Italia. "Kone is an important player, we're happy that he remained with us, and are confident that he will give his contribution during the season." The former Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder has established himself as a central figure in Roma's midfield setup since his arrival.
Gasperini's Influence Proved Decisive
Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini played a crucial role in the decision to block Kone's departure.
