Babak Keyhanfar has been confirmed as assistant coach to Dante at FC Bayern Munich's U23 side, according to Sky Germany. The 41-year-old coaching staff member will sign a contract through 2028 and reunite with the Brazilian defender, who is leaving OGC Nice to begin his managerial career in Bavaria's youth system this summer.
Keyhanfar brings extensive experience in assistant roles at German football's top levels. The former Oberliga player worked under Bo Svensson at Mainz 05 and spent time at Union Berlin before departing his last position at the end of 2024. His coaching journey spans multiple clubs and systems: he developed youth talent at Mainz's U19 academy, managed FC Liefering—the reserve side of Red Bull Salzburg—and notably shadowed Jürgen Klopp during his career development.
Dante's Transition from Player to Coach
Dante, now 42, enjoyed a distinguished spell at Bayern between 2012 and 2015, appearing in 133 competitive matches across all competitions. The Brazilian centre-back won three Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokal cups, and the 2013 UEFA Champions League during his time in Munich. He replaces Holger Seitz, who guided Bayern's second team since 2020 and led them to the Regionalliga championship in 2018-19. Seitz will move into a different role within the club's structure.
Bayern's U23 side competes in the Regionalliga Bayern, serving as a crucial development pathway for academy prospects. The appointment of Dante reflects the club's strategy to bring in experienced defensive minds to shape young talent. Keyhanfar's background in youth development across multiple Bundesliga academies positions him well to support Dante's debut in management and establish continuity within Bayern's coaching philosophy.
