Speaking to Sports Uncensored, Souness contrasted Rice's style with that of Spain's Rodri, describing the Englishman as "limited" in his playing philosophy. "Declan won't get any better, he's looking as good as he'll get at 27," Souness declared. The pundit acknowledged Rice's athleticism and commitment but questioned his ability to dictate play and create attacking opportunities.
