Rangers Back Danny Rohl Over Manager Change, Hutton Predicts

Danny Rohl is expected to remain as Rangers manager heading into the summer transfer window, despite mounting pressure from the club's demanding fanbase and Celtic's ongoing search for a permanent successor to interim boss Martin O'Neill. Former Gers defender Alan Hutton has backed the German tactician to be given time to implement his vision at Ibrox, arguing that stability should take precedence over another managerial upheaval.

Rohl inherited a squad in disarray when he took over in October, following Russell Martin's disastrous 17-game tenure that ended with Rangers finishing third in the Scottish Premiership, 10 points adrift of their fierce local rivals. Despite that difficult start, Hutton believes the Sheffield Wednesday veteran has demonstrated enough quality to warrant continued backing. "He squeezed absolutely everything out of the squad," Hutton told GOAL. "He inherited a mess, to be quite honest with you. What I liked about him is that in January he understood what the team needed—leaders and experience."

A Summer of Recruitment Ahead

Rohl's January window activity, which brought in experienced personnel to shore up Rangers' mentality and leadership, suggests a clear blueprint for summer recruitment. With chairman Andrew Cavenagh publicly endorsing the manager, Hutton believes Rangers should resist the temptation to follow Celtic into the managerial market. The alternative target—Derek McInnes at Hearts—is unlikely to leave after nearly claiming the title in his first season, meaning Rangers' options remain limited anyway.

Rohl's contract runs through 2028, providing both security and time to rebuild. Rather than chase another quick fix, the Gers should grant him a full pre-season and the January window to reshape the squad according to his philosophy. With Celtic forced into a permanent managerial search due to their own instability, Rangers have the chance to establish continuity and build something sustainable on Glasgow's blue half.
