A Barcelona player writes his name into UEFA Champions League history among Englishmen

In the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Barcelona suffered a 0–2 home defeat to Atlético Madrid, but one of the Catalans’ players is still rewriting the tournament’s history books.

Details: According to Opta, English forward Marcus Rashford became only the second English striker in the UEFA Champions League since the 2003/04 season to register at least seven shots in a single match. The only other player to achieve this feat was Wayne Rooney, who did so in the 2009–10 campaign.

The return leg between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona will take place in a week, on April 14, at the Metropolitano, kicking off at 21:00 CET.

Reminder: It has also emerged why the VAR officials failed to properly assess the Pubill incident and did not alert the referee to what had occurred.
