Sneijder Warns Arsenal of PSG Onslaught in Champions League

Wesley Sneijder has cautioned Arsenal that they could face a humbling scoreline when they meet Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30. The former Inter Milan midfielder, who experienced PSG's devastating attacking power firsthand, believes the French champions possess the clinical finishing to inflict a similar heavy defeat on Mikel Arteta's side.

Arsenal secured their first European final appearance since 2006 after overcoming Atletico Madrid in a tightly contested semi-final. The Gunners are within touching distance of a historic Premier League and Champions League double, but face an opponent in PSG who have demonstrated exceptional offensive capabilities. Luis Enrique's side demolished Bayern Munich 6-5 across two legs to reach the final, showcasing the attacking prowess that makes them tournament favourites.

Defensive Vulnerabilities on the Flanks

Sneijder highlighted a critical weakness in Arsenal's setup: their full-back department. While praising the quality of Arsenal's central defenders, the Dutch playmaker expressed serious reservations about their ability to contain PSG's wide threat, particularly on the left flank where the French club generates their most dangerous attacks. He pointed to the absence of Justin Timber as a potential issue, though acknowledged that midfielder Declan Rice can provide defensive cover when needed.

"If I have to say who I think will win, I'd say PSG," Sneijder said. "The full-backs are not the best players in the Champions League, and that's where PSG have power. I don't believe Arsenal will find it easy defending against their width and creativity in the final third."

Unpredictability of the Contest

Drawing parallels with Inter Milan's 5-0 capitulation to PSG last season, Sneijder suggested the final could swing toward either extreme. He predicted three possible outcomes: a dominant PSG victory (3-0 or 4-0), a narrow Arsenal upset (1-0), or anything in between. The volatility of modern Champions League football means that, despite PSG's favouritism, Arteta's tactical acumen and Arsenal's defensive discipline could spring a surprise.

Success for Arsenal would make them the 25th club to win the trophy, following PSG's 2025 triumph as the second consecutive first-time winner. PSG, meanwhile, are bidding to become only the second team in the Champions League era to successfully defend their crown—a feat only Real Madrid achieved during their three-peat between 2016 and 2018. With so much at stake, the final promises to be a compelling battle between two clubs with contrasting styles and ambitions.
