Jordan Henderson delivered an unforgettable debut performance at Stamford Bridge, scoring twice and providing an assist in Chelsea's dominant 5-1 victory over Bournemouth. The 36-year-old summer signing wasted no time making an impact, with his opening two contributions coming within the opening two minutes and 29 seconds—a Premier League feat matched only once in the competition's 30-year history.
Henderson's early brilliance proved instantly decisive. Just two minutes into the match on Saturday, the midfielder fired Chelsea ahead with a clinical finish. Barely 60 seconds later, he set up Morgan Rogers for the second goal, showcasing the creativity and timing that defined his Liverpool career. According to Opta Sports data, only Emile Heskey has matched this combination faster in Premier League history—the former Leicester City and Liverpool forward achieved it in April 1998 against Derby County, a gap of nearly 28 years between the two performances.
Record-Breaking Achievement
Henderson's evening improved further when he completed a brace with a superb header from a set piece in the 70th minute, sealing the comprehensive victory. At 36 years old, he became the oldest Chelsea player to score two goals in a single Premier League match since John Terry managed the feat in 2017. This milestone underscores Henderson's enduring quality after decades at the highest level.
The midfielder arrived at Chelsea on a free transfer last summer following a season with Brentford, where he remained an integral part of midfield operations despite his age. His immediate contribution suggests manager Enzo Maresca has identified a proven operator capable of delivering in crucial moments. Henderson was also included in England's squad planning for the 2026 World Cup, highlighting his continued relevance at international level despite being in the twilight of his career.
This performance sets the tone for what could be a significant campaign for both Henderson and Chelsea as they push for silverware in multiple competitions.
