Jeremy Doku Goals Form Real, Denies Play Style Change at Man

Jeremy Doku brushed off suggestions that his playing style has fundamentally shifted, insisting his recent goalscoring surge reflects natural instinct finally translating to end product. The Belgian winger was the standout performer in Manchester City's 3-0 victory over Brentford, opening the scoring with a composed finish before Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush sealed the convincing win at the Etihad.

Doku's well-taken goal came after a familiar pattern of play. He capitalised on a short corner routine, drifting past his marker before cutting inside to shoot from space in the box. The movement mirrored his equaliser against Everton just days earlier, yet Doku was adamant his approach remains unchanged. "I'm an instinct player. Today it's working out. I scored some goals, I've always played with instinct but now the goals are coming. I haven't been a different player," he told BBC's Match of the Day.

Consistency Rather Than Change

The 21-year-old winger has been a consistent threat down the flank throughout the season, but recent weeks have seen his underlying threat finally converted into goals. Rather than altering his game, Doku believes he is simply executing his natural aggressive approach with greater clinical efficiency. His blistering pace and willingness to run at defenders remain his primary assets—the difference now is he is capitalising on the spaces those qualities create. This uptick in scoring comes at a critical juncture, with City trailing Premier League leaders Arsenal by just two points with three matches remaining.

Doku also praised teammate Omar Marmoush, who added City's third goal following the Belgian's breakthrough. "When we scored the goal there was more space and then we had a second goal. We were relieved and happy," Doku explained. "I am happy for Omar, he has been training hard and this is about the work he has put in."

Title Race Intensifies

City's remaining fixtures pit them against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa, while Arsenal must navigate trips to West Ham and Crystal Palace alongside a home encounter with Burnley. With the margin so tight, Doku's newly sharpened edge in front of goal could prove decisive in determining where the Premier League trophy ends up this season.
