Ange Postecoglou has decided to release four youth-team players from Al-Nassr's training camp in Lisbon, sending them back to Riyadh after their initial call-up period concluded. The Australian manager made the decision once the club's international contingent returned from World Cup qualifying duties, effectively completing the squad for the upcoming season's preparations.
The four players released are Maher Tawashi, Fawaz Mashhour, Nawaf Al-Shammari and Faris Youssef, all academy prospects who had been included in the Portuguese camp's early phases. According to Saudi media reports, Postecoglou instructed his administrative team to arrange their departures once their scheduled training period ended, a standard practice when depth squad members are no longer needed during the intensified preparation phase.
Camp Progress and Upcoming Fixtures
The Saudi Pro League side arrived in Lisbon last Monday to begin their second training camp ahead of the new campaign. Their first friendly ended in disappointment, with Al-Nassr losing 2-1 to Benfica's reserve team in a 60-minute split fixture. Midfielder Abdulmalik Al-Jaber scored the consolation goal early in the match, highlighting areas requiring refinement before competitive play resumes.
Three additional friendlies remain scheduled during the camp. Al-Nassr will face Merida on 28 July, Estrela Amadora on 1 August, and Almeria on 4 August, with each fixture designed to build match fitness and tactical cohesion. The rotating squad rotations, including youth integration and senior player management, form part of Postecoglou's systematic approach to squad conditioning during overseas camps—a method that has become increasingly common among top Saudi clubs preparing for domestic and continental competitions.
The release of these four prospects allows Postecoglou to concentrate on developing a lean, focused squad for Al-Nassr's challenging season ahead in the Saudi Pro League and AFC Champions League commitments.
