Enzo Fernandez to Stay at Chelsea: Maresca Won't Pursue Man

Fabrizio Romano has clarified that Manchester City are not actively pursuing Enzo Fernández despite incoming manager Enzo Maresca's admiration for the Argentina midfielder. While the relationship between the two at Chelsea was exceptional, the transfer guru emphasises that appreciation does not automatically translate into a January or summer move.

Maresca's Appreciation Won't Lead to Chelsea Raid

Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that Manchester City have zero ongoing negotiations with Fernández at present. Though Maresca "loves" the player after their time together at Stamford Bridge, the incoming Etihad boss is not prioritising a move for the 23-year-old midfielder. The two built an "amazing, fantastic" connection during their spell at Chelsea, yet this personal bond will not trigger a transfer approach in the immediate future.

The speculation surrounding Fernández's future intensified following Chelsea's disappointing campaign, with reports suggesting the midfielder could seek an exit. Real Madrid have long-term interest in a 2026 summer deal, while Manchester City appeared a potential alternative given Maresca's appointment. However, Romano's update effectively dismisses any imminent threat to Chelsea's squad stability in this regard.

Future Developments and Maresca's Priorities

Romano stressed that circumstances could shift should Manchester City encounter obstacles in pursuing other targets like Elliot Anderson or alternative midfield solutions. For now, Maresca is focusing his transfer strategy elsewhere rather than dismantling his former club. Chelsea can proceed with confidence that their record signing—acquired for £106.8 million in 2023—will not be poached by their league rivals under the new City regime. Fernández's commitment to proving himself at Stamford Bridge remains the likeliest outcome as both club and player seek to reverse recent fortunes.
