Merson Predicts Arsenal 1-0 Win Over PSG in Champions League

Paul Merson has backed Arsenal to defeat PSG 1-0 in Saturday's Champions League final, citing the French club's defensive vulnerabilities as a decisive factor. The prediction comes after the Gunners secured their first Premier League title in 22 years, positioning them for an unprecedented domestic and European double under Mikel Arteta.

Merson explained his reasoning in an interview for Historic Newspapers, emphasizing that the opening goal will prove pivotal in what he expects to be a tightly contested match. "A cagey game would suit Arsenal well," he said. "If PSG arrive with their gung-ho approach, then Arsenal could be in trouble, but if they play with a fear of going 1-0 down, then Arsenal are right in the game."

Safonov Identified as PSG's Weak Link

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack has identified PSG's shot-stopper Matvey Safonov as a potential target for exploitation. Stack expressed concerns about the Russian keeper's performance across PSG's semi-final against Bayern Munich, highlighting moments where he appeared vulnerable when receiving crosses into the penalty area.

"I think he's one of the weakest links in that group," Stack told Metro. "If I was Arsenal, I would be putting him under severe pressure, certainly from set plays." Stack's assessment aligns with Arsenal's well-documented strength in aerial delivery and dead-ball situations, which could prove decisive in a low-scoring final.

The north London club seeks their first Champions League triumph in club history, while PSG are defending their title. Despite being considered underdogs, Arsenal's blend of Premier League-winning momentum and structural advantage in set-piece delivery gives them genuine hope of ending their European drought on Saturday evening.
