Dortmund Eyes Real Madrid Striker Garcia but €60m Fee Proves

Borussia Dortmund have accelerated negotiations to sign Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid, identifying the 22-year-old forward as their marquee transfer target for the upcoming window. However, a substantial valuation gap threatens to derail the deal, with Los Blancos demanding €60 million—a figure well beyond the Bundesliga club's current spending capacity.

Sporting director Ole Book has publicly designated Garcia as Dortmund's "dream transfer," following the striker's consistent performances in La Liga this season. The German outfit has initiated direct contact with the player's representatives to present their sporting project. Garcia himself views the move favourably, recognizing Bundesliga football as the ideal platform to accelerate his development—a path previously taken by other Madrid academy graduates seeking regular first-team minutes.

Bridging the Financial Gap

Despite mutual enthusiasm, Real Madrid's asking price has stalled proceedings. The Spanish champions have locked Garcia into a contract extending until 2030, providing them negotiating leverage. Rather than accept Dortmund's lower bids outright, Madrid have proposed three alternative structures to facilitate the transfer. A season-long loan would allow Garcia experience without permanent commitment, preserving Madrid's ownership rights. Alternatively, a permanent deal at approximately €20 million could proceed, contingent on a €35 million buy-back clause and 50 percent sell-on clause protecting Madrid's investment.

Garcia's statistics this campaign underscore his tactical value. Across 38 competitive appearances, the Spanish under-21 captain has accumulated seven goals and three assists from 1,397 minutes, often functioning as a rotation option. His positional versatility—operating as a traditional centre-forward, second striker, or right-winger—addresses Dortmund's need for depth alongside Serhou Guirassy and improved attacking output across all competitions.

Dortmund face a critical decision: whether to restructure their squad finances to accommodate Garcia's transfer or pursue alternative targets. The resolution will determine their attacking capacity heading into the next Bundesliga title race.
