Marcus Rashford could return to Manchester United this summer after the club rejected Barcelona's attempts to renegotiate his £26 million transfer fee. The forward has impressed on loan at the Spanish club, posting 14 goals and 14 assists this season, but financial constraints may force Barcelona to abandon their pursuit of a permanent deal.
Barcelona had two options regarding Rashford's future: purchase him outright for the agreed £26 million or extend his loan arrangement for another season. According to reports from Football Insider and former United chief scout Mick Brown, the Catalan club has approached Old Trafford requesting a lower price. However, United have made clear they will not accept anything below the original valuation.
United's Stance on Rashford's Exit
"Man United aren't looking to sell him on the cheap," Brown explained. "So it might be difficult for Barcelona to agree a deal, because from what I've heard they're trying to negotiate a lower price than the one previously agreed." The analyst stressed that accepting reduced offers would undermine the club's investment strategy, particularly with funds potentially earmarked for squad reinforcements.
The winger's market value has only strengthened during his Barcelona stint. With rival European clubs reportedly preparing formal interest and Premier League suitors circling, United holds significant leverage. "£26million is a bargain for somebody of Marcus Rashford's quality, anything less than that would be a robbery, and Man United know that," Brown added. Competition from other bidders means Barcelona cannot rely on remaining favourites to secure a discount.
Joshua Zirkzee's Uncertain Future
Separately, Joshua Zirkzee faces an uncertain future under incoming manager Michael Carrick, with reports suggesting the striker has been informed he holds no part in the club's plans. This development comes as United overhaul their attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window, creating potential opportunities for Rashford's repositioning within the squad or confirmation of a lucrative exit.
Manchester United's willingness to hold firm on Rashford's valuation reflects confidence in both his quality and market demand—a stance that could determine whether the 26-year-old remains in Barcelona or plots a fresh chapter elsewhere.
