The Liverpool manager acknowledged that Atletico's tactical setup caught him off guard from the start. "They surprised me a little tactically," Iraola explained to TNT Sports. "They played with five defenders, in a 5-3-2 formation. We were expecting something different." Rather than panic, Liverpool adapted after the interval. "We waited until we could correct things. After the break, we produced a much better performance, we pressed better, and I think we became the better team," the manager noted.

Iraola emphasized his squad's mental strength in overturning the deficit. "It is hard to ask for more than that. I think we showed great character, especially from the players after the difficult start," he said. The manager credited his attackers' quality as the difference-maker. "It was a great goal from Alexis, and so was Dominik's goal. On squad fitness concerns following the match, Iraola provided an update on winger Bradley Barcola, who appeared to struggle with fatigue. "No, it is just some cramps, especially for Bradley," the manager said. "We are rushing his return a little. We wanted him to be available, but in the end we decided to tell him: give us everything you have, and this is the maximum you can offer." The manager also defended Mac Allister's discipline after receiving a first yellow card. "Alexis was very smart.
