Gavi on Vinicius Clash: "I Told Him to Shut His Mouth" After

Gavi has revealed the details of his heated exchange with Vinicius Junior during Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in Sunday's title-deciding Clasico at Camp Nou. The midfielder's intensity helped secure the Blaugrana's second successive La Liga crown, but not before several combustible moments defined the rivalry's latest chapter.

The Barcelona star provided insight into the confrontation that captured attention during the match. "It's just football with Vinicius. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch," Gavi explained. "He's a hot-headed player, just like me. I just told him to shut his mouth, that's it. What happens on the pitch is one thing, and what happens off it is another. On the pitch, I defend my colors and give it my all. Off the pitch, I'm completely different."

A Victory Built on Mental Strength

The 21-year-old's performance carried particular weight given his injury trajectory. After battling serious knee problems over two seasons, Gavi has clawed his way back to become essential to Hansi Flick's midfield setup. "Unfortunately, I've suffered a lot in the last two years. There are serious injuries, and you have to be mentally strong, which I have been," he reflected. "It's not easy to play at this pace coming off two serious injuries. I've done it, and I'm proud of it."

Flick has rewarded the midfielder's resilience with regular starts since arriving at the club, establishing a relationship built on mutual trust. Gavi reciprocated the praise, emphasizing the manager's faith in his abilities: "Luckily, the manager has a lot of faith in me. I'm very grateful to him. He knows my talent and mentality and that I'm important to the team. He trusts me completely."

Eyes on Spain's 2026 World Cup Push

With domestic silverware secured, Gavi's focus shifts toward reclaiming his place in Spain's national team under Luis de la Fuente. Despite a previous injury sustained while representing La Roja, the midfielder remains committed to the project ahead of the 2026 World Cup campaign. "De la Fuente has always trusted me. I know that. I got injured playing for Spain in that match, and I had started every game under him," he noted. "If I'm at my best, the manager decides what's best for Spain. I'm more than ready, and I feel better than ever."
