Fermin Lopez: Lamine Yamal Will Be Ready for 2026 World Cup

Fermin Lopez has offered encouraging words about Lamine Yamal's recovery timeline, insisting the Barcelona winger will be in peak condition when Spain prepares for the 2026 World Cup. The teenage sensation was ruled out for the remainder of the domestic season after sustaining a muscle tear, but his Barcelona team-mate believes the ambitious 18-year-old will make a full recovery before the summer tournament.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Lopez said: "He is well, when you get injured it's tough at first because he's an ambitious guy who likes to help out on the pitch and play. With this injury, he can't play until the World Cup. Now he's doing well and needs to focus on recovering, and I think he'll be in good shape." The midfielder's assessment aligns with Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente's recent statements that Yamal trains three hours daily to ensure international readiness.

Barcelona's Title Push and Clasico Significance

Barcelona stand on the verge of clinching their 29th La Liga title, with a victory in the upcoming Clasico against Real Madrid offering historical significance. If the Blaugrana defeat their arch-rivals, they will become the first team ever to secure the championship by directly beating Madrid in a head-to-head encounter. Lopez embraced the challenge, stating: "It's a match that all of us players love to play, a Clasico, especially given our current situation. We're eager to play the game, to deliver a victory for the Cules."

The midfielder stressed that clinching the trophy matters more than the romantic nature of the opponent. "It doesn't matter, the sooner the better," he explained. "We've been very consistent throughout the year and we have to win it now as soon as possible." A draw would also secure the league title, but Lopez's mentality reflects Barcelona's desire to finish strongly under Hansi Flick.

Flick's Impact and La Masia Foundation

Lopez praised the German coach's influence on the club, describing him as "very approachable, very ambitious, and very demanding." He credited Flick's tactical system for Barcelona's collective improvement both as individuals and as a team. The 22-year-old also highlighted the significance of Barcelona building consecutive league titles around La Masia academy graduates, particularly against a Real Madrid side stacked with elite talent.

Looking ahead to the World Cup, Lopez expressed confidence in his own international prospects under de la Fuente. "I see myself playing an important role," he said. "Luis gives me a lot of confidence, and I've played more in these recent call-ups. I think we have a great squad, capable of repeating what we did at the European Championship." Spain's ambition is clear as they prepare to compete at the 2026 tournament with attacking talent like Yamal and midfield depth provided by Lopez and others.
