Yan Diomande to Real Madrid: PSG Withdraws in Transfer Race

Yan Diomande is set to join Real Madrid from RB Leipzig after the Spanish club struck an agreement with the German side on Sunday evening. The 19-year-old Ivorian winger will cost more than €100 million, with Leipzig's initial asking price reported at €150 million. Diomande is expected to travel to the Spanish capital this week to finalise a contract through 2031.

Paris Saint-Germain has officially withdrawn from negotiations, issuing a statement that criticized the deal's financial structure. The French club declared: "PSG officially withdrew their interest in Yan Diomande as well as their bids this evening. The demanded transfer fee and salary expectations were completely disproportionate. PSG will not abandon their principles of rational financial management as well as a balanced squad structure." Manchester City and Liverpool had also monitored the young talent but ultimately stepped aside.

Diomande's Impressive Rise at Leipzig

Diomande joined Leipzig last summer from CD Leganes for €20 million and has since become a standout talent in the Bundesliga. During the 2024-25 season, the winger has delivered 15 goals and 11 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions—a remarkable return for a player still in his teenage years. His attacking prowess and consistent performances have attracted interest from Europe's elite clubs.

The Ivory Coast international also impressed at the FIFA Club World Cup, starting regularly and recording one assist across four appearances. His technical ability and work rate have marked him as one of the most promising young talents in European football.

Real Madrid's acquisition of Diomande should effectively end speculation about interest in Bayern Munich's Michael Olise, as the club appears to have settled on the Leipzig star as their primary winger target. The move represents a significant investment in youth and attacking potential for the Spanish champions as they plan for the future beyond the current campaign.
