Jeff Bezos Approached to Invest in Liverpool by Amit Bhatia

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been approached by an investment consortium to take a stake in Liverpool Football Club, according to reports from Sky Sports. The discussions centre on a strategic minority investment led by Amit Bhatia, the businessman who recently stepped down as Queens Park Rangers co-owner. While no commitment has been confirmed, the involvement of one of the world's wealthiest individuals underscores Liverpool's growing appeal to global capital.

Bhatia, 46, is son-in-law to steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and has positioned himself as a serious player in football ownership. He ended his involvement with QPR in July, transferring his shares to focus on fresh opportunities. The consortium has already enlisted financial advisors to negotiate terms with Liverpool's parent company, Fenway Sports Group, which has signalled openness to outside investment. An FSG spokesperson confirmed to Sky Sports that "an investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."

Deal Structure and Valuation

Financial Times reporting suggests the deal would value Liverpool at more than $6 billion (£4.5 billion). The structure mirrors a similar arrangement struck with Dynasty Equity in 2023, when FSG sold a minority stake for approximately £164 million. Those funds were deployed towards debt reduction and infrastructure projects including the Anfield Road Stand redevelopment and AXA Training Centre expansion. While Bezos himself boasts a fortune worth nearly $257 billion according to Forbes, making him the world's fourth-richest person, his level of direct involvement remains uncertain.

This investment would primarily focus on long-term sustainability rather than immediate player acquisitions. Unlike speculative takeover scenarios, strategic minority stakes are designed to support operational costs and capital projects as Premier League finances become increasingly demanding. Liverpool's financial muscle relative to rivals Arsenal and Manchester City has become a competitive concern, and external capital provides crucial flexibility.

The approaching of such high-profile investors signals Liverpool's position as one of football's most valuable commercial entities. As boardroom battles increasingly define Premier League competition, this consortium's interest confirms that the Merseyside club remains an attractive asset for global wealth seeking sustainable returns in elite European football.
