Alexis Mac Allister's father and agent Carlos has signalled the midfielder could leave Liverpool this summer, claiming they have "so far" respected the club by not speaking to other potential suitors. The comments arrive as reports suggest the Reds are actively pursuing Victor Froholdt, a 20-year-old Danish talent at Porto, as a potential replacement in midfield.
Mac Allister arrived at Anfield from Brighton for £35 million in summer 2023 and impressed during his initial two seasons on Merseyside. However, his form has deteriorated significantly this term, prompting speculation about his future at the club. His representatives have made clear they have not publicly engaged with rival clubs, with Carlos explaining: "Alexis has a valid contract until June 2028 and so far we are not speaking publicly with any other club. We believe that the club's fans deserve this level of respect from the player."
The World Cup winner remains contracted to Liverpool through 2028, yet sources suggest the club would be open to selling him at the right price. Real Madrid has been mentioned among interested parties, whilst Curtis Jones could also depart amid Inter Milan's interest. This creates a midfield recruitment challenge for manager Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes.
Froholdt Emerges as Leading Target
Liverpool's recruitment team has identified Froholdt as a prime candidate to strengthen their midfield. The Danish midfielder has impressed scouts with his performances for Porto and the Denmark national team this season. Arsenal and Newcastle are also monitoring the youngster, with all three clubs showing "great interest" after tracking his development throughout the campaign.
Froholdt joined Porto from Copenhagen last summer for approximately £19 million, but Porto's asking price has escalated dramatically. His contract includes an €85 million (£73.5m) release clause that clubs must trigger to secure his services. The midfielder won domestic honours with Copenhagen before his move, and has continued that winning trajectory in Portugal's top flight with Porto, who recently clinched the Primeira Liga title with 85 points from 32 matches.
As Liverpool weigh midfield reinforcements, the contrast between Mac Allister's declining form and Froholdt's consistent excellence illustrates the crossroads the Reds face heading into the transfer window.
