Yan Diomande has decided to remain at RB Leipzig next season, rejecting advances from Europe's elite clubs. The 19-year-old Ivorian winger confirmed his commitment in an interview with kicker, stating simply, "Yes" when asked about staying put. His decision marks a significant moment for the Bundesliga club, which invested €20 million to sign him from Leganés just one year ago.
Diomande's breakout season has transformed him from an unknown prospect into one of football's most coveted young talents. The right-winger delivered 23 contributions across 36 competitive matches, establishing himself as a crucial player for Leipzig's attacking unit. His pace and one-on-one dribbling ability caught the attention of top European sides, with his market value skyrocketing to €75 million. Despite the enormous transfer fee now attached to his name, Diomande emphasised stability over immediate moves: "I'm not thinking about that right now. I'm in Leipzig and I enjoy playing here."
Champions League Football Proved Decisive
Leipzig's qualification for the Champions League played a crucial role in Diomande's decision. The winger highlighted the importance of competing at European football's highest level: "In the end, it's always the statistics that count. It's been a fantastic year for me." This selection criteria reflects his ambition while showing faith in his current club's trajectory. Having secured continental football, Leipzig can now build around their emerging star rather than lose him prematurely.
The forward reflected on his adaptation to German football with maturity beyond his years: "I had a difficult start, but then I got my chance, made the most of it and have become an important player for the team." Liverpool and Bayern Munich were among the clubs monitoring his situation, with the Reds viewing him as a potential long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. However, Bayern's focus on Newcastle's Anthony Gordon suggests less urgency in that pursuit. Diomande remains contracted to Leipzig until 2030, giving the club significant leverage.
The winger's commitment comes as he prepares for the World Cup with the Ivorian national team. Manager Emerson Fae selected him for the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, where he will face Germany in the group stage on 20 June. This further validates his emergence as one of African football's brightest prospects, cementing his decision to prioritise development over a hasty transfer.
