Joao Felix: Ronaldo Suffered Under Weight of Saudi League

Joao Felix has opened up about the intense emotional toll Cristiano Ronaldo experienced during Al-Nassr's relentless pursuit of the Saudi Pro League crown. After claiming their first domestic title in seven years with a 4-1 victory over Damac, the Portuguese forward revealed how his legendary teammate grappled with the pressure behind the scenes.

Al-Nassr secured the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League championship on the final day at Al-Awwal Park, finishing two points clear of rivals Al-Hilal. Ronaldo delivered a crucial impact with a second-half brace, joined by goals from Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman. This triumph ended a painful drought for the Riyadh-based club, whose last league title came in 2018.

Felix Reflects on Ronaldo's Internal Struggle

Speaking to Sport TV after his impressive debut season, Felix didn't shy away from discussing the psychological burden Ronaldo carried. "Cris has been trying to win his first title here, mainly the league," Felix explained. "I know, because I'm with him every day, what he suffers with this, I know how much he wanted to win."

The winger praised the achievement in context, noting that winning a Saudi league title carries weight beyond typical European competition. "It's special, as it was a time of much controversy," Felix stated. "Winning with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia isn't easy. There's a lot going on outside of football here." He acknowledged that Al-Nassr, despite assembling star talent, remains a smaller operation competing against heavyweight neighbours like Al-Hilal.

Personal Success and Title Recognition

Felix himself has thrived since arriving last summer, crediting the tactical system and quality teammates for his breakthrough campaign. When asked about individual honours, he suggested both he and Ronaldo have strong claims to the league's best player award. "With Al Nassr being champions, I think it has to go to me or Cris," he said.

The pair now face a swift transition from club celebrations to international duty. Both will report to Portugal's training camp on June 1, carrying momentum into a challenging World Cup group featuring DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia. Felix expressed confidence in their squad's prospects, emphasising the strength of their group dynamics as they pursue global silverware.
